and Yvon Riou on the guitar, will literally transport you into a musical
universe composed of Breton, Irish,Yiddish, and Macedonian tunes with a few
compositions by Jean-Michel woven into the patchwork.

Jean-Michel Veillon and Yvon Riou are « live » and well ! And the good news
is, that the former still plays the wooden transverse flute and the latter,
the guitar in open tuning.
In this convivial album, the virtuoso flute's only accompaniment is Yvon
Riou's genial guitar playing. It was recorded with the help of Alain Genty
and Philippe Ollivier in public, in Belfast and in Coatreven (a small
village on the North coast of Brittany) the repertoire, for the most part,
being drawn from Breton and Irish sources.
We rediscover the finely nuanced and sweetly played inventive arrangements
so particular to this duo... the guitar and the flute weave an intricate
pattern.whose quality is always exceptional.
This album contains Breton, Irish, Yidish, and Macedonian music as well as a
few original pieces by Jean-Michel and a waltz by the jazz flutist Steve
Kujala. The repertoire is a reflection of the journeys the two musicians
have made together and the live recording, gives us a taste of the great
warmth of the Irish and Breton audiences.
We would especially like to mention two titles, « Yannig Kongar » and « Marig ar Polanton », which we found to be particularly inspired.
The flute is an instrument relatively recent to Brittany, and Jean-Michel
has adapted it to the rhythm of Breton danses with a distinct loyalty to
the singing tradition. He has yet to turn a gavotte into a reel !
His virtuosity does not however, over-shadow the guitar. Yvon's inspired
playing marries perfectly with his measured phrasing and creates a
complementary and balanced duality.
